Family Session at Burke Lake Park | The McKnight Family

When Simone first reached out, she told me she and her husband Patrick had never taken family photos before: no engagement, wedding, maternity or newborn photos.

“We’ve missed all other major occasions due to the craziness of life.”

I can relate, 100 percent.

I knew these family photos would mean a lot to them, so I started brainstorming ways to make this session unique. I asked them to bring some special items along, so this particular family session was different than most.

MEETING THE MCKNIGHTS

This session was absolutely perfect. The McKnights were so sweet and photogenic, the weather was amazing and we practically had the park to ourselves. I am so glad we scheduled this session before the madness of COVID-19 really kicked in!

I had been dying to shoot a family portrait session at Burke Lake Park ever since I captured a quinceanera’s court photos there last fall. This perfect spring day did not disappoint.

Although it got a little bit windy during some of their session, it actually worked out in our favor (most of the time). And to top everything off, their adorable son Brendan was so smiley!

If I jumped up and down just one time, he was hooked. Hearing him giggle had me grinning ear to ear!

It’s always nice getting to know my clients during sessions. They’re not at work or with their extended family. It’s just them and me. It’s a pretty intimate scenario, and I loved getting to learn about Simone and Patrick.

Simone’s family lives on the west coast, so she doesn’t get to see them often. In fact, she thought to take family photos in the first place because she wanted to send her mom some photos.

And that right there is a big part of why I love what I do. I get to create timeless heirlooms that family members can cherish for the rest of their lives. It’s a blessing, responsibility and privilege I don’t take lightly.

Dear Simone and Patrick,

I am so glad we had the opportunity to get to know each other and create beautiful memories for you to always have. Brendan won’t always be this young or small, so I hope you treasure these photos as a reminder of what it was like to be parents during this time. Thank you for trusting me to capture your family photos!
