Smithsonian Castle Engagement | Washington D.C. | Rachel + Jose

When Jose reached out and asked me to capture his proposal to Rachel, I knew he was a keeper. He wanted everything to be perfect - the moment, the location, the outfits, and definitely the speech. Although an Excessive Heat Warning was declared on the day of his planned proposal, we went ahead and moved forward with the plans. We met as close as possible to sunset so the heat wouldn't be unbearable, and Jose got down on one knee in front of the Smithsonian Castle. It was a perfect moment that none of us will soon forget.

The other unforgettable part was how many times we had to reschedule Rachel and Jose's engagement because of more Heat Warnings and even flooding. However, I'm a big believer in purpose: everything happens for a reason. The day we finally captured their engagement photos, everything was perfect. The temperature was warm and golden hour did not disappoint that day at the Smithsonian Castle in D.C.

Rachel and Jose grinned ear to ear the whole evening. They posed so naturally and didn't realize that many times, their hands and arms were exactly where they needed to be. I told them they should look into modeling because my goodness, they're pros! My theory is that they felt comfortable because they were with each other and didn't have a worry in the world. For the two hours they were in front of my camera, their only job was to love each other.

Although I love capturing special moments like this, my favorite part of the session is getting to know my clients. Rachel and Jose told me all about their love story, and how they both happened to move to the same building in D.C. in the spring of 2020, and now, neither needs to stay. Their plans? Since they both work remotely full-time, they want to visit different cities they've always wanted to visit. Talk about living out your dream with your best friend!!

Dear Rachel and Jose,

I am over the moon excited for you both as you begin this new chapter of your life together! It's so obvious you care deeply for each other, and I loved spending time with you on the day of your engagement and then again for your second session. Rachel, you are such a light. Your smile can brighten anyone's day! Jose, your parents should be so proud of how they raised you. You're a true gentleman - one of the many reasons why I'm sure Rachel loves you. Thank you both for trusting me to capture this special occasion in your life. I can't wait to follow along your journey!
